Landyards With A Style...

Recently I mentioned to you that I have ventured into crocheting with crocheting thread or in some cases with embroidery thread.

I started making this cute crochet landyards with seeds beads.  Mind you the seed beads I used here are the 6/0 seed beads. I find these to work perfect for making these. They are light and are (for me at least) easy to maneuver with a crochet hook

So here's a little history on my thread- some of the packets of embroidery thread/ floss I got at Michaels and my crochet thread I got at AC Moore.  I suggest for the embroidery thread take it out of the small tube sleeves they are in and wind them in the little cards boards (floss bobbins) they sell at these stores for this type of thread..it just makes it easier trust me. Now once you have the crochet thread (the one from Aunt Lydia's) I like to wind this type it into a ball.

Now once you choose which one you are going to work on find a needle that will accommodate the size of the thread or floss and the seed beads. Start stringing 100 seed beads...yes 100,  now for me depending on how long you want your crochet landyards to be will determine how many beads you may need. Also, depending on your stitch patter it will determine if you will use all or few.  First chain 5  to create your circle. After you have made you circle loop now chain 1 bring up a bead chain 1 and repeat.

Keep double checking to make sure you are getting the length you want. Once your done single stitch or slip stitch and close your project up.

Even A Tee Can Be Dressed Up...

For as long as I can remember when I started making jewelry (way before crocheting) I made a collection of bracelets that I decided to just call t-shirt bracelets. They were a combo of 5/0 - 10/0 seed beads and a mixture of other glass beads to compliment the smaller beads.

People would ask me why the name and I would tell them the story behind it. It was simple...one day my husband and I were getting ready to visit some friends for a bbq and I didn't have any accessory to go with this cute t-shirt he had gotten me that said in the front 'baby girl'..it was cute! Light pastel pink with a soft brown script writing and some silver glitter.  You can actually wear these as a single bracelet or stack them up with a variety of colors and textures. You can even wear them all year round!

So I quickly said to myself I need to make something quick - I felt naked without some sort of accessory - and I need promote what I am making so people can ask. I need to make something really quick to go with this cute tee.  Immediately I started to pick random beads that would compliment the colors and was stinging feverishly and I made not only a necklace but made some of these bracelets.

I tell you when I was done it was amazing how everything looked at the end. This is how I came up with this concept...I love to wear t-shirts on my casual days and if I can wear something  that will jazz up my tee I will do that... OR I will make it! Look at it this way it's a plain canvas all you have to do is paint it...with Beads!!!

Stack 'em up bracelets...

So when I first started making jewelry about 9 or so years ago one of the first things I wanted to make were bracelets – stretchy ones.  I wanted to make a bunch that would stack up to look like I had a gazillion of them LOL.

So I went to Michaels first and purchased what they had which was a Blue Moon kit of different size beads but it had more small ones (seed beads) then big ones.

I ventured to making and break a bunch.  I say brake because I was still learning how to make them and when I first started I was making them to small so when I would stretch them to put them on beads went flying.

I then as the years would go by I knew I had to teach myself a lot of things and sometimes (as with my crocheting) I learn better with seeing and doing then reading.  So I would research online how to make a better bracelet and discovered that I needed to make sure I had the correct size first.  Geezz!!! I didn’t realize that…basically I had to measure the outside of my hand (around in  a circle) of which then I discovered I was a size 7 for my wrist…yep that measurement determined my wrist size.

I was glad I learned that info because that became so instrumental when someone would want to buy one of my bracelets and they were surprised when I would tell them how to determine their size.

So anyway these here I made with the thin stretch band call Stretch Magic .5mm which I purchased at Michaels or AC Moore and the beads I used were from the same place.  However, AC Moore has these great tubes from Beaders Paradise with these 6/0  & 10/0 Czech Glass Beads that I totally LOVE!!! And especially when they have them on sale.

Embellish them but adding a cute charm to it if you want (I did).  Have fun making these.  Stack them if you want or wear them with other bracelets…it’s all up to you.

I wanted to showcase some more of my crochet embroidery necklace/bracelet.  I have always found it challenging for me using the thinner crochet hook that is meant for the ever so thin yarn or thread.  Here I actually didn’t find it so challenging.  Especially because the yarn wasn’t that super thin. 

I have mentioned this before but I will mention it again, here I took some crocheting thread , hemp or embroidery floss (the link will give you an idea of what I am talking about however, I purchased my first pack at AC Moore) and crochet them with beads to wear in a necklace or bracelet.  You do need to string your beads through it first before you start to crochet.  Remember the end product should be the length you want it to be so that you are able to wrap it around your wrist where it’s not super tight on you and yet still be able to wear it as a necklace ( am able to wrap mine around my neck twice but prefer to wear it like a lariat).
 

So you can use any light weight yarn (get the yarn type from Aunt Lydia’s and/or the embroidery floss that you can use to make friendship bracelets) crochet hook that will work for with the yarn, seed beads, a charm and/or a button.

To string your beads (6/0 size seed beads) use a regular needle that will fit the beads together with the thread or yarn.  Now string the beads all the way through the thread (I used about 100 give or take) and then start to crochet away.  The entire thing is all the same simple stitch…single crochet.  So for me I would crochet 3 sc and slip a bead through then continue with the same thing til I got through all my beads.
 

When you get it to the desire length you want you crochet a hoop and close it off (like a slip stitch) and attach your button or pretty bead to the other end and close it off.  Now you have a duo purpose necklace bracelet. These are fun to make try it! I enjoy wearing these in the summer where I can dress it up with another necklace to add more pizzazz to it.
