Crochet hats for everyone...

crochet beret
I remember a couple of holidays ago my mother came to stay with me for about a month.  And I remember her giving my husband a set of hats and scarves that she crochet and knitted.  I was amazed at how expensive they looked and the knitted one looked too complicated for me to even say to her ...hey I can do that!
So I in turn decided that I would crochet one or a few for myself first template or guide.  And I only thought of this since I had never really crochet in a long time.

So the first hat I started to make  was the beret hat.  These to me were trial an error til I finally got the hang of it.  Then I decided to crochet a simple hat that I could fold around as a brim …this one I got pretty easy.  Then I decided, you know, I really would like to learn how to knit but didn’t want to do it with the two needles ...really I didn't but if that was going to be the only way oh well.  So when I was doing my usual research on line to see how to knit (trust me I did have two knitting needles that I purchased with my mom so I had something to work with) I discovered that you could knit with a loom. I looked at videos after videos and discovered I needed to give this a try.  So I went to one of my favorite places AC Moore and purchased my first loom - the round ones.  Eventually I went and got the long ones as well at Michaels .

Truth be told once I started to knit my hats on the round looms I was getting the hang of it.  I especially liked it when I was able to create my own brim on the loom which I thought was pretty cool.  I have made tiny hats for newborns and have made bigger hats for young kids.  I haven’t made one for adults off the loom.  These I have made (adult ones) by crocheting.

Needless to say, I have learned to overcome some of my fears of knitting but I know one day I need to or should learn the way with the two needles just like my mom has.

Anyway, here are a few  that I am showing from the ones I made off the loom to the ones I have crochet to even some that my mom has made.

Oh before I forget the one area I also need to get used to making are hats for men/boys.  I need to get cracking on that LOL
